Workplace Language Pre-CNA

Dates: January 2-February 8, 2018
Tuition: $1,800

Designed to prepare English Language Learners for the Certified Nursing Assistant training. This course covers basic nursing principles and study of medical terms including: body systems, ethics in health care, patient needs, infection control, and human development. Eight hours of Achieve Global curriculum including: critical thinking skills, teamwork, interpersonal skills, worth ethic, attitude, time management, and conflict management. Introduction to computers.

Workplace Language Pre-Manufacturing

Dates: November 28-December 22, 2017
Tuition: $1,800

This 81-hour course was developed to prepare New Americans, for whom English is a second language, for Manufacturing skills training. Emphasis is placed on workplace vocabulary, safety and math. Also included is eight hours of Achieve Global curriculum.

Module Breakdown:

  • English: Names of tools and uses, basic body body parts, staying healthy and ergonomics, reading comprehension, practice completing forms and creative writing.
  • Safety: Names of safety gear and how to request it, how to report illnesses and accidents, understanding workplace safety and signs, and safe behavior on the job.
  • Math: Measurement (rulers and angles), understanding paychecks, computation (adding, subtracting, dividing, and multiplying fractions, reducing fractions, converting fractions to decimals and vice versa).
  • Achieve Global: Critical thinking skills, teamwork, interpersonal skills, work ethic and attitude, time management, and conflict management.


Dates: November 20-December 22, 2017
Tuition: $1,800

Through this 81-hour training participants will learn workplace safety along with the proper use and operation of basic hand and power tools in the manufacturing industry. Students will learn how to read measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and blueprint reading. Safety classroom portion of forklift training is also included along with 8 hours of Achieve Global leadership training. Introduction to computers.

Computer training is scheduled during Workplace Language training and also during Manufacturing training. Individual classes are offered as well. A minimum of four people is required to hold a separate computer class. Interested participants who are not enrolled students should call the Project Associate to sign up for training. Click below for class descriptions.

Computer Basics

NOTE: The Computer Basics class is required prior to taking any additional computer courses.

  • Learn some of the basic vocabulary related to using a computer, different computer parts, and how to navigate Windows.
  • Learn how to use a mouse.
  • Create an e-mail address (if needed).
Keyboarding I & II
  • Learn how to locate home row, the correct fingering for typing, and improve speed and accuracy.
  • Online resource for self-study is provided.
Microsoft Word
  • Learn how to create new documents, use the cut/copy/paste functions, and save and print files.
  • Learn to format documents.
  • Insert and format pictures.
Microsoft Excel
  • Create a new spreadsheet and format it.
  • Learn different short cuts.
  • Learn how to use basic formulas.
Internet Basics & Internet Safety
  • Learn how to search Google Chrome.
  • Learn how to protect your information when using the internet.
  • Find job postings on JobsND, JobsHQ, and Indeed.
  • Manage your e-mail account.
