Test Center

Academic Services Center provides proctoring for online testing and an alternative testing site for students who qualify.

Location: Mildred Johnson Library, Room 222

Fall and Spring Hours:

  • Monday: 8:30 a.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday-Thursday: 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Closed Saturday and Sunday

Please note that if classes are not in session, the Test Center is closed.

Guidelines for Students:

  • Students are responsible to talk to their instructors about the need for testing arrangements and/or accommodations at the Test Center.
  • Students need to remind the instructor two days before a test is sent or brought over to the Test Center.
  • Students must show a picture ID to test.
  • Students must be on time and must complete the test at one sitting based on the instruction's allotted time.

Tests should be taken during the student's scheduled class hours, unless special arrangements have been made in advance with the instructor. If you have any concerns or questions, please e-mail karen.dahlgren@ndscs.edu or linda.fink@ndscs.edu.

Online Testing

  • The NDSCS Test Center will proctor tests free for all NDSCS online students.
  • Students from other institutions will be charged a fee of $10 per test or $40 per semester, per class.

COMPASS Testing

Entry Level Assessment Course Placement Guidelines

The Academic Services Center provides COMPASS testing (placement testing), on a daily basis.

Appointments are required for testing. To schedule your appointment contact:

COMPASS Fees

  • NDSCS Student Re-Test: $20. Students may only re-test once. It is best to wait at least one week to re-test and take some time to review subject matter. Once a student has started classes in a developmental series, they must complete the series. They are not allowed to try to test out of class once they have started the series.
  • Non-NDSCS Students: $20

DAT - Differential Aptitude Test

  • The DAT assessment is given throughout the year by appointment for students applying for the Diesel or John Deere Tech programs.

Students requesting to take this test should contact Karen Dahlgren, 701-671-2256 or Maria Kaduc, 701-671-2616.

If the student prefers, this test can be mailed to their high school counselor to administer.

GED - General Educational Development

GED Tests are given throughout the year by appointment. For more information, contact:

Preparations for GED Tests are offered at the Adult Learning Center, NDSCS Mildred Johnson Library, Room 219.

National College Testing Dates (ACT, SAT, Workkeys)

ACT - American College Testing

The ACT is an assessment tool for college placement for high school and college students. The test helps to identify students who are ready for entry-level college courses, students who need basic skills remediation and students who may be exempt from particular courses.

Pre-registration with ACT is required. ACT encourages students to register online or students may fill out a registration packet. For a registration packet, contact:

SAT - Scholastic Aptitude Test

The SAT is an assessment tool for college placement for incoming and continuing students. This test helps to identify students who are ready for entry-level college courses, students who need basic skills remediation and students who may be exempt from particular courses. Students are required to register online.

  • Students are required to report to Mildred Johnson Library, second floor, room 222, a minimum of 30 minutes prior to testing time.
  • Test facilitators are Maria Kaduc, 701-671-2616 and Linda Fink, 701-671-2441.
