|
General Conditions of Contract for Residence Halls or Apartments

Application and Assignment Procedures
• Applicants applying for a residence hall must submit a one time non-residence $25 housing application fee to the Residence Life office, NDSCS, 800 Sixth Street North, Wahpeton, ND 58076-0002. Applicants applying for a college apartment must submit a refundable $100 security deposit to be considered for the college apartment.
• Apartment deposit(s) is not applied to rent payment, but remains on file for the duration of the contract. Any charge for damage to college property or unpaid bills with the college will be deducted before refund. Refunds normally take two weeks following proper check-out. To minimize damage charges, avoid the use of nails, additional hooks and bathtub appliqués. A full list of potential damage charges may be obtained at the Residence Life office. Deposit refunds will be made only after apartment residents check out of the unit with a college staff member.
• Roommate preferences are honored, when possible. If a specific person is designated, he or she must request the same, and the applications should be returned simultaneously.
• On-campus housing is available to the extent that the college has space, and the right is reserved to assign students to temporary space until regular space has been assigned.
• Room assignments for the next college year are made during the spring and summer semesters.

Payment Procedures
• Payments for a meal plan and or housing units are made on assigned fee payment dates. Family apartment residents are required to pay rent at the beginning of each month but may pay at the beginning of a semester for the total semester, if desired.

Occupancy
• Students will be permitted to move into their accommodations the Sunday preceding the first class day.
• For admission to the room, report to the assigned hall. A fee receipt will be on file with the hall staff preceding the student's arrival. Those assigned to apartments need to stop at the Residence Life office to obtain keys for their apartment.
• Residence halls are closed during winter break and spring break. Students who must remain at college during these periods can make special arrangements at the Residence Life office. An additional fee will be charged, as these breaks are outside the standard academic year.
• The college assumes no responsibility for loss or damage to residents’ personal property. It is strongly recommended students insure their property with a standard renter’s insurance policy.
• Each student is responsible for properly checking out of the living unit according to established procedures. Failure to do so will result in loss of deposit or an additional charge.
• Depending upon availability, double rooms in residence halls may be used as single rooms. Costs will be billed accordingly.
• Any room not occupied during the college year is subject to re-assignment; the college reserves the right to determine what constitutes occupancy.

Standard Regulations
• Residents are responsible to adhere to the rules and regulations outlined in the resident handbook and the college catalog.
• As one of the terms of this contract for accommodation in the college housing units, each resident agrees to abide by these regulations, by existing regulations not included herewith, and by such regulations for the use of residence units as may be deemed necessary.

Withdrawal from the College
• On or after the first class day of each semester, authorized room and board payment refunds are prorated according to the North Dakota University System refund policy. Refunds are issued by mail, provided all payment obligations to the college have been met. An apartment resident who is withdrawing from college is eligible for complete refund of deposit except for deduction of damages. A resident must check out within 24 hours from the date recorded on the official withdrawal papers.
