| Now that I have received my award notice what should I do with it? | |
| Review and accept your awards online as indicated on the email you received. If you are accepting a Stafford Loan, you will be required to specify a Lender. | |
| Note: Your Financial Aid will not be processed until you have accepted your award online. | |
| What if the amount of financial aid I was awarded is not enough? | |
| There are a variety of alternative loan programs available to help you meet your expenses without having to rely on credit cards. | |
| NOTE: If you advance a grade level the end of a semester, notify the Financial Aid office, as you may be eligible for an increase in your Stafford Loan. | |
| What if I have an unusual circumstance(s) I would like to have reviewed? | |
| Contact the Financial Aid office and request a special circumstance form for unusual circumstances, or print a form. Complete and return the form to the Financial Aid office along with any supporting documentation required. | |

| Should I notify the Financial Aid office of scholarships and other resources not listed on my award notice? | |
| Yes, It is your responsibility to notify the Financial Aid office of any scholarships and/or resources not listed on your award notice. Prompt notification is important since we may need to adjust the aid you were previously awarded. If an over award does result, you will be responsible for repaying the amount that exceeds your need. | |
| Could my award notice change? | |
| The college reserves the right to make adjustments to your award at any time, based on additional information which may become available. This includes, but is not limited to: | |
| • All scholarships; • Residence hall waivers; • Vocational rehabilitation; • National Guard tuition waivers; • All veterans benefits; • Workforce Investment Act (WIA); • Changes resulting from verification; or • Change in enrollment status (to less than full-time). |

| Will my Pell Grant increase if I register for more credits later in the semester? | |
| The amount of your Pell Grant will be based on your enrollment status on census date (8th class day) of each semester or at the time you become eligible for a Pell Grant after that date. | |
| What is verification? Will you need my tax returns? | |
| Verification is the process of checking the accuracy of the information you reported on your financial aid application. Approximately 30 percent of all applicants are selected for verification by the federal processor. If selected, NDSCS will notify you by mail and provide you with a list of the necessary forms that must be submitted. | |
| NOTE: Processing of your financial aid will not take place until verification process is completed. | |
| Is there anything that could delay the disbursement of my financial aid once I have accepted my award? | |
| Yes. If: | |
| • You do not return master promissory note to your lender; • You do not complete entrance loan counseling; • You are not actively participating in at least 6 credits for most Federal and State aid. |

| I am not a resident of North Dakota. May I receive a state grant at NDSCS? | |
| Most state grant programs do not permit a student to use their grants at out-of-state colleges. However, we encourage all students who are not residents of North Dakota to contact their state higher education commission, for information on grants from their home state. | |
| When is financial aid disbursement? | |
| Fall Fee payment is scheduled for September 8 and 9, 2009, and Spring Fee payment disbursement is scheduled for January 26 and 27, 2010. All disbursement days will begin at 8:00 a.m. in the Plains/Prairie Room of the Student Center. To insure there is not a delay in receiving your loan funds, be sure to return your master promissory note and complete entrance student loan counseling. | |

| My parents applied for a PLUS Loan; how will they receive their loan? | |
| The funds will be applied to your account with the Business Affairs Office; any funds left after you bill is paid will be disbursed to you or your parent as directed by parent. | |
| Are there certain requirements that must be met to continue receiving financial aid? | |
| Yes. All students, whether or not they receive financial aid, are required to earn a minimum cumulative GPA and complete 67 percent of their attempted credits. Therefore, any credits dropped or failed after the census date (eight class day) are attempted, but NOT completed credits | |

| How do I apply for summer semester? | |
| In addition to completing the current year FAFSA (The 2008-2009 FAFSA for the 2009 summer semester or the 2009-2010 FAFSA for the 2010 summer semester), a continuing student must complete a Summer Semester Supplement, available online or at the Financial Aid office after you have registered for your summer classes. | |
| If I attend the summer semester, what types of financial aid am I eligible to receive? | |
| To be considered for most of aid programs, you will need to be registered for at least six credits. Twelve credits is considered full-time for financial aid purposes. | |
| STAFFORD LOANS (subsidized and/or unsubsidized): | |
| Freshman (1-29 credits) .............................$2,750 | |
| Sophomore (30 credits and above) .............$3,250 | |
| However, if you are an independent student (per financial aid requirements), you may be eligible for an additional Unsubsidized Stafford Loan for up to $2,000, not to exceed your budget for summer semester. | |
| PELL GRANT Summer Pell Grant eligibility is based on your enrollment status during both fall and spring semesters. For example, if you attended only one semester or were registered for less than full-time for one or both semesters, you may have some remaining Pell Grant eligibility for summer semester. | |
| COLLEGE WORK STUDY College Work Study jobs are available on a part-time basis. | |

| How do I apply for scholarships? | |
| Scholarships are available from a variety of sources; therefore, students need to be resourceful and initiate the process early each year. Typically, scholarship recipients are selected in the spring (February through May) for the upcoming academic year. Returning students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher are especially encouraged to apply and should complete the General Scholarship Application. | |
