The NDSCS Leadership Academy is an innovative program that will help NDSCS identify and grow leaders internal to NDSCS. The program is designed to prepare employees to be more effective in their present position and to be able to take on different responsibility, such as a committee chairperson, a leader of a special project, or a department chairperson. Flexibility is provided through training options that participants may choose from that will meet their needs as well as of the various employee groups.
Participants in NDSCS Leadership Academy will:
-
have a foundational understanding of quality and continuous improvement,
-
demonstrate ethical decision making and strategic planning, and
-
understand and work in the operational and functional structure of the institution.

The benefits and choices available for the off-campus leadership training are presented. Time to discuss possible individual leadership projects and requirements is provided.
Leadership in a Quality Organization is a 10 week program that focuses on the knowledge, skills, and behaviors of leadership. An understanding of quality and continuous improvement at NDSCS provides a foundation for your particular leadership role and responsibilities.
An off-campus Leadership Training option of four programs is offered to each participant to develop and strengthen their leadership skills.
By providing a foundation and the opportunity to further develop your leadership skills, participants are required to develop an individual project that contains specific, measurable objectives. These projects are intended to give participants the opportunity to apply their new skills in their current role and in turn, to benefit NDSCS by improving some aspect of quality, speed, efficiency, or cost.
Round Table Discussions are scheduled at three and six months after the completion of Leadership in a Quality Organization. These facilitated discussions provide an opportunity to reflect and share your experiences of Leadership Training and how you have successfully achieved your leadership project goals.
A Formal Presentation to the campus communityprovides a capstone experience for you. Your choice from a variety of presentation methods may be used.
Your Academy experience closes with a Personal Ceremony that celebrates the difference you make to your colleagues, department, NDSCS and community through your leadership. Formal recognitionis given at the annual NDSCS Rewards and Recognition Program held in the spring.
