Registration Process -- Frequently Asked Questions

Several issues have surfaced since we started using the PeopleSoft system at NDSCS. I have compiled a list of frequently asked questions to help you until you are more comfortable with the new computer system and the new procedures at NDSCS. As new questions surface, they will be added to this web page.

Additional information can be found at the ConnectND Web site under "Student Administration Systems, Student Information."

When can I register for the next semester?

All current NDSCS students are assigned a day and time their registration access will open during registration week. Not all students will be able to register right away. The system automatically assigns a registration window based upon student status and course load to allow second year students first chance at classes needed for graduation.

To find your registration start date/time, go to Campus Connection and sign in using your ConnectND User ID and Password. Click "Student Self Service," and "View my Appointment Time" which is referring to when your registration window begins. This window will not close until the last day to add a class for the semester for which you are registering so you'll have time to make changes to your schedule even after the initial registration week.

If you don't see your registration appointment date by the beginning of registration week, contact Enrollment Services and they will check your term status in the system. If you have questions about this process, contact Distance Ed or Enrollment Services.

How do I get my ConnectND User ID and Password?

If you have your ConnectND ID but don't remember your password or can't remember either of them, go to the Campus Connection site and click "What is My User ID" and complete the information to get your ID. Then you can click "Forgot my Password" and complete that information and a password will be emailed to you.

How do I register or add/drop classes after I've registered?

Go to Campus Connection and enter your Student ID and Password. Then click the following links to add or drop a class:

NOTE: If you are trying to drop all your classes, the system will not allow the process to be completed. This becomes a "Withdrawal" from college and needs to be done through a different process. If you have not started classes yet and want to cancel your registrations, contact Enrollment Services. If you have started your classes and want to withdraw from college, contact the Division Dean's Office appropriate for your program. (If you are not sure which process to use, contact Distance Education and we can help you.)

How do I find class numbers for registration?

You can find the online class numbers needed for registration on the online web site by clicking "Online Catalog" and "Online Programs, Courses and Course Descriptions." There you will see a link to the course schedules for the semester. The schedules include software requirements as well as course pre-requisites.

Class numbers can also be found by clicking "View Schedule of Classes" on the Campus Connection site. You may search various ways, i.e. all online classes by searching "Location-Online" or all ENGL 110 classes, etc.

Students are encouraged to register early before classes start to fill. Be sure to work with your program advisors to ensure you are taking the correct classes for your program and course sequence.

Students should refer to the Academic Calendar which lists important college dates, including final days to add and drop classes for each term.

Collaborative Registration Information - What if I want to take a class at another ND college and have it count on my NDSCS class load for financial aid?

Students from NDSCS who want to take a class from another ND University System campus as a collaborative student need to contact complete the Collaborative Registration Request Form which is electronically submitted to Enrollment Services. They will then assist with the collaborative registration process. Call 1-800-342-4325, ext 3-2204 or email for additional information.

When I register, I get an error message in red text.

This usually means you have a hold against your record and you will not be able to register for any classes until the holds are removed.

Checking “Holds”

It is recommended students check their "Holds" site in Student Self Service under Personal Portfolio prior to the start of registration week. This will allow time to get the hold problem remedied and the hold removed so registration won't have to be delayed.

If students attempt to register and get an "error" message in red after entering the class number, they can click the error message and it will explain they have a hold on their record and the registration was not completed. The type of hold will not be detailed on this screen.

To find out the type of hold on a student record, go to Personal Portfolio and click Holds and To Dos section. Click the "Holds" link for more detailed information. Type type of hold will determine which office you need to contact to remedy the situation.

Students need to contact the appropriate office to determine how to resolve the hold issue. They will be unable to register for classes until holds are removed from their record.

Some of the holds may be due to missing MMR (measles/mumps/reubella) documentation for Admissions. If students are totally online and not on-campus at all, this requirement can be waived. If you have this type of hold on your record and are totally online, contact the Distance Education office.

I don't see the term/semester when I log into Campus Connection.

If you get into the Campus Connection system and don't see the term you need to register, contact Enrollment Services (1-800-342-4325, ext 3-2202). They will check your record to see that they have everything and can activate the term for you.

"Exceeding Units for Appointment" Message

The system has capped units/credits at 18 per semester. If you are trying to register for a total of more than 18 credits, or if you have registered for 16 credits and are trying to add a three-credit class bringing your new total to 19 credits, you will receive an error message about exceeding your units. To register for more than 18 credits, you need to contact the Division Dean's Office and they will help you.

When is the last day to drop a class for 100% refund?

The Add/Drop policy was updated fall 2005 to be in compliance with SBHE policy.During the first 0-8.99% of the semester students will get 100% refund for dropped classes. After this time, there will be no refund. (See current Refund Schedule)

Campus Connection/PeopleSoft Portal Timeout

It is now NECESSARY that you CLICK SIGN OUT when leaving the Campus Connection system instead of allowing your session to timeout. If you let it time out, you may be locked out and unable to sign back in. The NDUS security staff recommends that you sign out and re-sign in if you plan to leave your session for more than 10-15 minutes to eliminate being locked out.

If you get locked out, you may follow the steps below.

  1. If the window is open that indicates that your session has expired, you may click on the sign in link and re-enter your user ID and password information.
  2. If this doesn't work, clear your cache and cookies by clicking on "Tools" at the top of your browser, "Internet Options," and click on Delete Cookies, Delete Files, and Clear History . Close the browser and try to sign back in. You should clear your cache and cookies on a regular basis to insure that the software functions normally.
  3. If you still can not sign in, call the NDUS Help Desk at 1-866-457-6387 for them to reset your user sign in.

How do I view my account charges?

Students can view charges on their NDSCS account in the PeopleSoft system (Campus Connection). After signing in, click Student Self Service, Learner Service, Finances. You should see a link to your account information.

Can I pay for my charges online with a credit card?

You may go to the NDSCS Online "Financial Info" site for the online payment form or contact the Business Office and they can take your information over the phone. Currently, the PeopleSoft system we use does not have an online payment form.

Late Fees

There may be a finance charge added to your account balance if tuition and fees are not paid promptly each semester. There are two types of fees: Daily Late Fees and Finance Charges (1%). Late fees start after fee payment dates each semester which is often during the middle of the third week of class. A 1% finance charge will be added to accounts not paid before a bill becomes 60 days past due. This applies to ALL students.

Financial Aid checks and refund checks from financial aid are sent to the Business Office and our system currently has no way to identify students who are totally distant students. If you are expecting a check, be sure the Business Office knows you are not a local student so they can send it to you as soon as possible. Otherwise the check may lay in their office longer than necessary and create additional problems with late charges, etc.

For more specific information about financial issues, contact the Business Office.

What other areas can I access from the Campus Connection site?

There are many screens accessible to students when they sign into the Campus Connection site. Some are used to get information such as account balance, semester schedule of classes, student's class schedule, add and drop classes. Others are used to update information in a student record such as student address, phone, email addresses.

Most sites are accessible by clicking "Student Self Service" and either "Learner Services" or "Personal Portfolio."

Where do I check my grades?

To check grades at the end of each semester, sign into the "Campus Connection" system and click the following links:

How to I get my name changed in my student record?

To change your name in our offcial student record, contact Enrollment Services at 1-800-342-4325, ext 3-2202 or email. There will be a form to complete and sign and return to the Enrollment Services Office to get the change made.
