| Frequently Asked Questions |
| |
|
| What classes do I need to take? |
| Information regarding Electronics Technology classes can be viewed under Academic options (majors), or course descriptions. |
| |
|
| Who are your "typical" students? |
| While most of our students are recent high school graduates, many students come to our program later in life and often with substantial prior work or educational experience. Some of these people have had electronics in high school. Some are changing career fields, or retraining to work in "high tech". Men and women from eighteen to middle aged have been successful and graduated from our program. |
| |
|
| How long does the course of study last? |
| Students that complete the Electronics Technology curriculum graduate with an Associates of Applied Science, A.A.S., degree in Electronics Technology. The typical student will attend classes for 18 months, or 4 semesters during a 2 year period. Fall semester runs from late August to mid December, spring semester runs from early January to mid May. |
| An optional summer session taken between the student's first and second year prepares the student to work as an Instrumentation Technician in a process control environment. |
| |
|
| What kind of jobs are available upon graduation? |
| We typically have many more posted job openings than we have graduates to fill. Career Services contacts many companies in order to find employers that are in need of students with skills in our field. Graduates are employed as Field Service Technicians, Instrumentation Technicians, Computer Service Technicians, Engineering Technicians, Communications Technicians, and in many other related jobs. |
| Our rate of job placement in related electronics jobs for graduating students is typically in the 90 to 98 percent range. |
| |
|
| When do classes begin? |
|
| Fall semester classes will begin on Tuesday, August 26, 2008. Due to the sequence of classes required in the Electronics Technology program it is necessary for all students to begin at that time if they wish to graduate in two years as many classes are offered only once each year. |

|
| Where do the students live while attending NDSCS? |
| Most of the students live in one of the nine residence halls that are on campus. There are also 136 apartment units on the north side of campus available to students with families. While many students live in the residence halls for both years spent attending NDSCS, some second year students decide to rent an apartment or house in the surrounding area. |
