Agricultural Systems Management (NDSU Transfer)

The Agriculture Department mission statement is to “provide a foundation for an entrepreneurial agricultural spirit.”

Its philosophy statement is: “The Agriculture Department provides education for the present and future by incorporating mechanics, technology, natural resources, problem solving, internships and communication through a diverse program.”

The Agricultural Systems Management NDSU Transfer curriculum is designed for the student planning on graduating from North Dakota State University with an Agricultural/Industrial Equipment Option Degree in Agricultural Systems Management. The student will receive hands-on instruction in Electrical Systems, Intro to Diesel Engines, Preventive Maintenance/Power Trains, and Engine Fundamentals along with general education courses that will transfer to NDSU.

This collaboration gives students primary experience in physical science, engineering technology and machinery systems with complementary hands-on training. When at NDSU, students will complement their program by selecting a business specialization or minor emphasizing courses in management, sales, marketing, finance and personnel management. Completion of one or more cooperative education or internship placements in the equipment industry also is required.

Positions available for graduates include sales person, service manager, parts and inventory control manager, sales manager, territory service manager, finance manager, regional marketing representative, manufacturer’s representative, district sales manager and warranty manager.

Production Agriculture: Students select courses in agricultural science and supporting areas to enhance individual career goals in the technical and management aspects of production agriculture.
Business: Students select courses in agricultural economics, business and related areas to enhance career goals in agribusiness and related industries.
NOTE: In the agricultural economics option, students are advised to select this specialization, emphasizing courses in management, marketing, finance and information systems.
Applied Technology: Students select courses to enhance curriculum diversity in their areas of interest.

Admission requirements

The applicants must be high school graduates or equivalent. Helpful courses to prepare for this program are mathematics, physical science, biology, agricultural education, computer sciences and English. Courses that develop communication skills are important. Students should have a minimum of three years of high school math to be more successful. Applicants may be required to complete a basic skills evaluation during the admissions process.

Award

No degree awarded. Students will receive first-year instruction towards a baccalaureate degree in the agricultural equipment option of Agricultural Systems Management at NDSU.
