MEHC 221 Motivational Interviewing (3 credits)
This course will include basic emphasis on case management, important issues in working with clients and learning practical skills regarding communication. The course is based on the premise of empowering clients through collaboration with appropriate providers. (S)
MEHC 262 Mental Health Management (3)
This course is an introduction to the skills in observation, assessment and treatment for working with people who are experiencing mental illness. Common diagnosis, treatment modalities, and assessment procedures will be explored. (F)
MEHC 265 Student Internship (4)
As an extension of the competencies developed in subsequent course work, this course consists of a 160-hour practicum in an approved human service setting. The course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop and apply program-related competences and skills. Prerequisites: 1) all other core curriculum courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better prior to students enrolling in MEHC 265, and 2) students pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in Mental Health will be required to complete 20 hours of volunteer work and a reflection paper prior to enrolling in MEHC 265. MEHC X92 Experimental Course (1-9)
A course designed to meet special departmental needs during new course development. It is used for one year after which time the course is assigned a different number.
MEHC 297 Cooperative Education (1-5)
Cooperative Education offers students the opportunity to integrate career, social and personal development into the educational process. The cooperative education program allows students to integrate classroom study with a paid work experience related to their fields of study. It is recommended that a student has successfully completed one year of academic study.
MEHC 299 Special Topics (1-9)
A course designed to meet special departmental needs.
