Head Coach Scott Schumacher enters his 1st season as the head coach of the NDSCS Wildcats.
In 21 years as a basketball coach at the collegiate level, one thing has followed "Coach Schu" -- winning. Schumacher currently presides as President of the NJCAA Basketball Coaches Association. He also serves as the Junior College Representative to the USA Basketball Collegiate Selection Committee.
His career started as an assistant coach at Sheridan Junior College in Sheridan, Wyoming under NJCAA Hall of Fame head coach Bruce Hoffman. Coach Schumacher was then hired as an assistant at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
Coach Schumacher was again on the move as he took over as head coach of Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas. After spending five very successful years at Paris, which included a conference championship and a TEC Coach of the Year Honor, he took over the Kilgore College program. By his fourth year, Kilgore had secured a national ranking of No. 2.
Along with another conference championship, he has had the privilege of coaching seven NJCAA All-Americans. He remains the only coach to win the Texas Eastern Conference Championship at two schools. Coach Schumacher and his wife Lisa are the proud parents of three children: Ross (7), Lonna (2) and newborn Alec.

After graduating from high school, he attended Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., and worked in the sports information department for five years. He graduated in December 2001 with a bachelor’s of science degree in business computer systems.
After two years of working as a computer consultant, Colvin attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va., to work on his master’s degree. He received a master’s degree in sports administration in 2005. While at VCU, he was assistant coach for Atlee High School’s boys basketball team.
After graduating from VCU, Colvin took his first college coaching position, joining Jerry Drymon’s staff at Southwestern Iowa Community College in Creston, Iowa. While at SWCC, Colvin helped recruit the student athletes that would lead SWCC to their first two winning seasons in over six years. He coached or recruited four all-region performers, including three pre-season All-Americans.
Colvin then moved on to Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas, where he joined Mark Berger’s staff and helped to restart a program that was disbanded for 14 years. In two years he coached three all-conference performers and two Academic All-Americans. The men’s team finished 8th in the nation in team GPA in 2007-08 with an overall grade point average of 3.05.
