Wildcats bring season to an end at Region XIII Tournament Posted on 10/30/2012
The NDSCS Volleyball team started out well in the double elimination Region XIII Tournament held in Wahpeton, N.D., but slowly had their season come to an end on Saturday. The fight never stopped after opening with defeating Williston State College (WSC) on Friday, but the Cats were overwhelmed with the force of Bismarck State College (BSC) and then again by WSC the following day in tournament play which resulted in a third place finish for NDSCS.
With the bye being the No.1 seed in the tournament, the Lady Cats were able to pull through in four tight games with the win over WSC (25-23, 23-25, 27-25, and 26-24) on Friday. Leading the Wildcats with the win was Danielle Brewer with 48 assists and five blocks. Kaylee Pender also had five blocks and 13 kills. Moriah Skroch was on the board with 15 kills and 17 digs. Baylee Wilson led in kills with 16 and Shellina Irwin led in digs with 18. NDSCS then had to wait until 4 p.m. the next day to take on the No. 2 seed, BSC.
The Wildcats were stunned by the BSC Mystics- losing in three games ( 20-25, 23-25, and 17-25). BSC was sharp on their game, clearly trying to make a statement. They then had a one game break before they took on the WSC for the second time in the tournament, which was a revenge match for the Tetons. WSC won in four games, which could have gone either way (20-25, 25-20, 22-25 and 17-25).
During the two matches, the Wildcats had leadership in Kaylee Pender with 28 kills. Alix Pearson had a total of nine blocks combined in both matches and Shellina Irwin had 49 digs.
The Wildcat’s season came to an end with a third place Region XIII, a first place Mon-Dak Conference finish, and an overall season record of 28-9.
