Wildcats sweep NDSCS Tourney with four wins Posted on 10/1/2012
The NDSCS Volleyball team won all four games this past weekend at the NDSCS Family Weekend Invitational pushing their record to 18-5. With a total of 12 teams in competition, the Wildcats faced St. Cloud Technical College (SCTC), Anoka Ramsey Community College (ARCC), Hibbing Community College (BCC) and Northland Community and Technical College (NCTC).
On Friday, the Cats faced SCTC and ended the match in three games (25-14, 25-11, 25-12), then took on ARCC, which was also over in three games (25-14, 25-19, 25-18).
The Wildcat stat leaders for the day were defensive specialist Ashtin Wittenburg, Wyndmere, N.D., with 18 digs and veteran Katie Wangberg, Pine River, Minn., with 38 assists. Close behind Wangberg was Danielle Brewer, Fargo, N.D., with 26 assists.
The following day, NDSCS played HCC and NCTC, which were both over in three games (25-19, 25-17, 25-11) and (25-14, 25-15, 25-19) respectively.
Saturday’s stat leaders after two matches were Baylee Wilson, Breckenridge, Minn., with 18 kills and Wangberg with a total of 45 assists, in which she achieved an incredible 28 against NCTC. Defensively, Shellina Irwin, Wasilla, Alaska, had an impressive 44 digs.
The Wildcats won four of four in the two-day tournament, making their record 18-5 for the year. The next opponents for the Cats will be Dawson Community College and Lake Region State College. Both are home conference matches that will take place Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 p.m.
