Wildcat Volleyball sweeps competition at Ridgewater Posted on 9/17/2012
The NDSCS Volleyball team crushed the competition in the tournament this past Friday and Saturday in Ridgewater, Minn., where they faced Jamestown College (JC), Ridgewater College (RC), Bethel University (BU) and University of St. Thomas (UST). The Cats left 4-0 pushing their record to 11-0.
On Friday, the Wildcats defeated JC in three games: 25-19, 25-23 and 25-19. Leading NDSCS in the tournament opener were Katie Wangberg with 19 assists, 14 digs and 2 blocks and Moriah Skroch with 13 digs and nine kills. The Cats won in four games against RC: 22-25, 25-17, 25-13 and 25-14. Stat leader during this match was once again Wangberg with 10 kills, 14 assists and two aces. Kaylee Pender added an impressive 11 kills.
“We got better as the match went on and it was great to see our defense improve,” expressed Coach Passa. “Great blocking and good serve receive. The team did a great job of serving them tough.”
The following day, the Cats had further success while finishing the day 2-0 over Bethel University and University of St. Thomas. Both matches went three games: BU (25-5, 25-18 and 25-6) and UST (25-23, 25-20 and 25-16).
During the match against BU, the Cats were led by Moriah Skroch with six kills and 10 digs and Wangberg with nine kills and eight assists. Ashtin Wittenburg had a great match with 18 digs and five service aces. Against UST, Skroch had 13 kills and no errors while Wangberg counted for eight kills and 18 assists. Danielle Brewer had a great match with 17 assists.
“It was a great weekend for NDSCS,” said Passa. “It was fun to see them play so well and win. I am looking forward to two home games next week.”
The Wildcats had a successful weekend with four wins and are now 11-4. NDSCS has two home games this week. The matches are on Wednesday against Dakota College-Bottineau and again on Friday versus Dakota County and Technical College. Both will start at 7 p.m. Share
