ASC 87 College/Writing Prep
 
 
Course Description:
College Writing Prep is a writing course designed to prepare students for college composition classes.
 
Required Text and Materials:
• Anker, Susan. Real Essays with Readings. Boston: Bedford or St. Martin's, 2003;
• Folder;
• Paper;
• Pens, Pencils; and
• Computer disk(s).
 
Course Policies:
• Be on time; and
• Attendance is required because almost all the work is done in class;
• All assignments must be completed satisfactorily to receive a passing grade; and
• Utilize class time wisely to complete all assignments.
 
Goals:
• Write clear and correct sentences;
• Use standard punctuation, capitalization and spelling;
• Demonstrate understanding of subject-verb agreement;
• Be able to correct sentence fragments and run-on sentences;
• Focus on a writing topic
• Organize and formulate an idea in writing;
• State thesis statements clearly;
• Write topic sentences and supporting details;
• Identify purpose and audience;
• Demonstrate appropriate and varied word choice; and
• Proofread paragraphs and essays.
 
Expected Student Contributions:
• Attend classes;
• Complete assignments;
• Work to your best ability;
• Demonstrate the ability to write focused paragraphs and essays in various styles;
• Improve writing skills; and
• Attend conferences with the instructor when scheduled.
