| WorkKeys Testing | |
| WorkKeys is a job skills assessment system developed by ACT to measure “real-world” skills that employers believe are critical to job success. It connects work skills, training and testing for education and employers. WorkKeys is another optional test used to determine eligibility for the new North Dakota scholarships. The state of North Dakota requires three sections of the WorkKeys, which include: Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information and Locating Information. New North Dakota scholarships are available for students attaining a score of 24 on the ACT or 5 on each of the three sections of WorkKeys. The amount of each scholarship is $750 per semester, or $1,500 for the academic year, based on full-time enrollment in an accredited higher education institution in North Dakota, both public and private. Application deadline is June 1 of each year, with high school graduates notified of their eligibility for either scholarship by June 30. The deadline for taking the ACT or the WorkKeys assessments for the 2009-2010 graduates is February 6, 2010 to be eligible for these scholarships. Under the new North Dakota law, juniors in high school are required to take either the ACT test or the WorkKeys test. The tests will be given at the high schools on April 28, 2010. Makeup test day will be May 12, 2010. The state will be covering the cost of one of these tests for juniors taken on these dates. The North Dakota State College of Science will be offering WorkKeys at a cost of $40 for all three tests. NDSCS will be administering the WorkKeys test on January 16, 2010, April 17, 2010, and May 8, 2010. Online practice WorkKeys tests are available at http://www.act.org/workkeys/assess/index.html. Pre-registration is required by contacting Karen Dahlgren at 701-671-2256. Tests may also be taken one at a time for $15 per test by setting up an appointment with Karen Dahlgren. Students applying to NDSCS may submit WorkKeys assessment scores in their three required tests in lieu of ACT/SAT test scores. Students intending to transfer are strongly encouraged to take the ACT or SAT test. Students who use WorkKeys for admission must take the COMPASS test in reading, writing, and mathematics for course placement. |
