The North Dakota State College of Science offers a unique eight-week College Prep program for students attending any college or university in the fall. To develop your skills and increase your chances of success in college and beyond. College Prep program offers a combination of preparatory courses to strengthen an individual's reading, math, science, study and computer skills. You will acquire the confidence needed to pursue the curriculum you choose.
The College Prep program is a year-round program, but the most concentrated effort occurs during the summer. By taking required courses during the summer sessions, students are able to take a lighter course load during the following semester.

Classes begin on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 and end on Friday, July 25, 2008.
   
Courses:
Following an assessment of your academic skills and educational plan, a program of study will be developed with you. The Academic Services Center courses are described below.
 
Reading:
• ASC 82 Effective Reading
Provides strategies to increase reading efficiency, build vocabulary and improve basic writing and study skills. (2 credits)
• ASC 83 Speed Reading
Improves reading efficiency through increased reading rate with good comprehension. Stresses flexibility of speed according to reading purpose. (1 credit)
 
Writing Prep:
• ASC 87 College Writing Prep
Helps students develop their skills in sentence, paragraph and essay writing skills. (2 credits)
• ASC 88 Composition Lab
Provides supplemental and developmental instruction for students taking an English course (based on needs). (1 credit)
 
Math:
• ASC 90 Math Prep
Improves basic math computational skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, fractions and decimals. (1 credit)
• ASC 92 Beginning Algebra
Teaches or reviews basic algebra. Recommended for liberal arts students. (2 credits)
 
Computer:
• ASC 70 Computer Prep
Introduces students to personal computer use. Includes fundamentals of computer systems and basic software applications. (1 credit)
• ASC 71 Intro to Keyboarding
Offers students with no experience the opportunity to practice keyboarding and word processing skills. (1 credit)
 
Enrichment:
• ASC 67 English as a Second Language
Helps students who speak English as a Second Language to communicate effectively in daily life. Areas of concentration include speaking, listening, reading and writing. (1 credit)
 
Special Topics:
Academic Services Center staff conduct a variety of workshops during the summer. For information regarding these workshops, please call (701) 671-2622.
 
Books and Supplies:
Books and materials can be obtained at the college bookstore in the Student Center.
 
Financial Aid:
• Students who need financial assistance should contact the Financial Aid office at (701) 671-2207.
 
Housing:
College housing is available in residence halls for both men and women. Bed linens, pillows and pillowcases are furnished and laundered. Students with families may obtain accommodations in either college-owned apartments or in private housing. Complete information on housing is available by contacting the Director of Residence Life at (701) 671-2194.
 
Dining Services:
The Student Center offers food service Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Lunch and dinner are served, with several meal plans available. For more information call (701) 671-2336 or (701) 671-2321.
 
Tutorial Help:
Tutorial help with math assignments and writing projects will be available on a limited basis. Call (701) 671-2622 for a schedule.
